Building Community Resilience With Nature-Based SolutionsThe guide includes six sections, and users can start at any section, depending on their current knowledge base and interests.

The first section of the guide, “What are nature-based solutions?” explains what nature-based solutions are and describes three broad categories of nature-based solutions and identifies types of nature-based solutions in each one.

“The Business Case” section explores nature-based solutions by summarizing their potential cost savings and their non-monetary benefits.

The “Planning and Policy-Making Phase” section identifies planning processes and programs that can help users invest in nature-based solutions. It also discusses how plans and policies can be updated to allow and encourage nature-based solutions.

The “Implementation Phase” section reviews how local resources can be mobilized to preserve, restore, and build nature-based solutions, and discusses innovative ways of promoting private investment.

The “Federal Funding Opportunities Section” outlines federal funding sources for nature-based solutions, emphasizing FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) grant programs. Along with these sections, the guide provides additional resources.
