Disasters are costly.
In 2023, the U.S. experienced 28 separate billion-dollar-plus disasters, costing a total of $92.9 billion, and causing at least 492 direct or indirect fatalities.
And as of July, there had been 19 billion-dollar-plus disasters so far in 2024, totaling $49.6 billion and at least 149 fatalities. Unfortunately, with the impacts from Hurricane Helene, these numbers are going to rise.
Plan now.
Resilient Virginia helps communities build resilience and plan for disasters so they are safer when disasters strike. Investing in resilience and disaster preparedness is much less costly than recovering from a disaster. A recent study shows that for every $1 invested in disaster preparedness, $13 is saved in economic costs, damages, & clean up.
