FloodSmart

National Flood Insurance ProgramFEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program offer the FloodSmart website where users can learn how insurance costs reflect a property’s flood risk. For people concerned about hurricane season, this website offers a link that directs users to an agent that can discuss a flood insurance policy. People can also see how much flood damage can cost them in order to help them choose an insurance policy. Users can learn more about what is or isn’t covered by insurance.

This website has Flood Maps that people can use to determine the flood risk in a specific area. People can also use resources on this site to learn more about mitigation strategies and related discounts to lower their flood risk costs. This website also provides a thorough explanation of why people need flood insurance.

For understanding how insurance works, users can read about deductibles, the limits of insurance coverage, and how items are valued at time of loss. People can learn about the before and after of a flood, with steps to prepare for flooding, starting a flood claim, documenting damaging and starting the clean up process, and other disaster response decisions.
