The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) offers a YouTube playlist focused on sustainable communities, including Recreation Economy for Rural Communities (RERC) Program: Giles County, VA.
The Recreation Economy for Rural Communities program, sponsored by the EPA, the USDA Forest Service, and the Northern Border Regional Commission, is helping Giles County, Virginia communities develop an action plan to support local economic development through outdoor recreation.
Giles County was one of 10 communities across the US selected to participate in the pilot year of the RERC program. The purpose of the RERC working sessions in Giles County was to bring community members and regional partners together to a generate community-driven action plan to support asset-based economic development and conservation and stewardship of the region’s natural, cultural, and historical assets.
This video highlights a site visit that the RERC planning assistance team took to learn more about Giles County and to kick off the RERC project in the community.
