The Smart Growth Network works to encourage development that boost the economy, enhance community vitality, and protect the environment. Network partners include environmental, preservation and professional organizations, developers, real estate interests, and local and state governments. EPA is one of the founding partners of the network.
“Smart growth” covers a range of development and conservation strategies that help protect human health and the natural environment and make communities more attractive, economically stronger, and more socially diverse.
Since its creation in late 1996, the network has become a clearinghouse for information about smart growth strategies. The Smart Growth Network website, Smart Growth Online, features an extensive array of smart growth-related news, events, information, research, presentations, and publications.
The National Smart Growth Information Clearinghouse offers effective growth, development and preservation practices.
Smart Growth’s website offers access to upcoming webinars and past webinars that cover issues pertaining to sustainable development. Smart Growth’s blog shares articles, books, and videos on topics such as community and stakeholder collaboration in development decisions and preserving open space, farmland, natural beauty, and critical environmental areas.
